WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Pilates concentrates on posture, alignment, balance and flexibility. Due to the slow and controlled pace the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.
BENEFITS OF PILATES
There is a connection awareness through the mind and body which is practiced through breath control which is similar to yoga but the movements and flow of the class is quite different. Pilates can be really beneficial for those who suffer with back pain due to its emphasis on core control and pace of the class. Other benefits of Pilates are improved muscle tone, flexibility, mobility, reduced stress, increased blood circulation and gentle weight loss.
OUR PILATES CLASSES
We offer two Pilates classes on a weekly basis. Mat Pilates with Fiona is an open level class so suitable for everyone however we have a new class just for beginners. The beginners class will break down the movements in more detail and move at a slower pace giving you time to really get to know and feel how things are working in the body. Both Fiona and Louise are experienced instructors who will make sure you are happy in the classes.
